This is why we have embraced the opportunity offered by BASF to produce our next product line from the use of renewable raw materials.

Choosing the BASF Biomass Balance Approach programme for our products:

• Reduces the production of greenhouse gases
• Drives the use of renewable resources
• Respects an independent certification

It is a choice comparable to that offered to final consumers to lean on electricity suppliers that certify the origin of energy from renewable sources. In the same way, BASF ensures that it supplies materials processed from renewable resources.

BASF has opened new horizons with the development of a balanced biomass process for the use of renewable raw materials in the chemical industry. This approach makes it possible to replace fossil fuels with renewable resources in the Production Verbund, BASF’s integrated production system.

In BASF’s Biomass Balance Approach (Biomass Balance Approach), renewable resources such as bio-naphtha or biomethane, derived from by-products of agricultural production and cultivation, or food processing, are used together with fossil resources in the very early stages of chemical production.
As Mondeox, we have chosen to collaborate on this innovation project, and we will produce for the first time, in April, an entire Outdoor Collection certified by BASF’s Biomass Balance Approach.

The planting day was a success that saw Mondeox protagonist in Enego in the Vicenza Alps, one of the areas most affected by the Vaia storm.

“We really understood what it means to have respect and attention to the environment that surrounds us. It is fundamental to know what the resources of our planet are, in order to try to safeguard and preserve nature so that it continues to be a precious asset for our existence.” This is how Giada Chiarparini, Mondeox Export Manager, comments on the reforestation experience she participated in, this summer in Enego. .

This year, Manuel Florian, CEO of Mondeox, presented the Walk With Us project, a new corporate path of Mondeox aimed at building the foundations of the company’s future. Among these fundamentals, also environmental sustainability.
Following this green approach, Mondeox started a collaboration with WOWnature, an initiative by Etifor, a spin-off of Padua University that offers advice to institutions and companies to help them enhance their services and products dedicated to Nature.

The first step of the initiative is the active support for a reforestation project: adopting trees and planting them in the areas of the Altopiano di Asiago, in the municipality of Enego in the province of Vicenza, one of the areas most affected by the Vaia storm, which in October 2018 caused the crash of millions of trees.

This area is FSC® certified. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification ensures that a forest or forest plantation management follows strict environmental, social and economic standards.

Not only a charity initiative but above all a shared path within the company: in fact, three top figures of Mondeox directly participated in the planting day, together with the Export Manager Giada Chiarparini there were also Andrea Orsella and Daisy Milani, Mondeox Sales Managers. The first goal is to internally share the Re-Thinking Management process started with Walk With Us.

“Our active contribution to the planting of trees,” says Andrea Orsella at the end of the day, “by immersing ourselves completely in nature savouring that sense of freedom and peace, made us understand how indispensable it is to support these projects, even with small actions.”

Daisy Milani says: “It was terrible to witness the bleak spectacle left by the passage of Vaia storm, even after three years. But participating in this reforestation action, together with other people, and seeing how nature can slowly return to its beauty and richness renewed me. Every day we can make a difference in all fields of our life.”

Almost three years have passed since the cataclysm caused by the Vaia Storm, which struck the Dolomites and the Venetian Pre-Alps, and the territory has not yet recovered.

The very strong wind, between 100 and 200 km/h for several hours, and the storm of October 2018 caused the crash of millions of trees, with the consequent destruction of tens of thousands of hectares of alpine coniferous forest: a real natural disaster that still leaves dismayed for the destruction visible today.

Climate changes linked to the global warming, which are also a direct consequence of extreme weather phenomena such as the Vaia Storm, until few years ago an unimaginable event in our territory, have prompted the top management of Mondeox Spa to consider on which initiatives, an industrial reality like this, could quickly put in place to make a concrete contribution to the protection of the planet and the future of the next generations by starting a wide-ranging path.

For this reason was born the collaboration and support for WOWnature, an initiative of Etifor, a spin-off of the University of Padua that offers advices to institutions and companies to help them enhance the services and products of Nature.

WOWnature’s goal is to reforest abandoned or inaccessible green areas and woods, including the area dramatically affected by the Vaia Storm.

Mondeox Spa has decided to give his assistance to the action coordinated by WOWnature. An active support for an important reforestation area project: adopting trees and planting them in the areas of the Altopiano di Asiago, in Enego, in the district of Vicenza.

The support for WOWnature, which Mondeox Spa hopes to maintain for many years, is one of the first steps that the Venetian Company has undertaken starting from this 2021, in the name of sustainability and environmental protection.
